Biscuits & Chocolate Gravy
Biscuits
Ingredients:
2 1/2 C. Bisquick baking mix
1 tsp. baking powder
2/3 C. plus 1 Tbsp. buttermilk (use a little more if needed)
Preparation:
Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Mix Bisquick, baking powder, and buttermilk until blended. On a floured board need dough about ten times, dough should be easy to roll out, but not dry. Roll dough out to 1/2" thickness and cut biscuits 2 1/2" diameter. Place biscuits on an ungreased baking dish, or cookie sheet and brush the tops of the biscuits with melted butter or bacon grease if you desire. Bake biscuits 8 - 12 minutes or until done.
Chocolate Gravy
Ingredients
1/3 cup sugar
1 ½ Tbsp. all-purpose flour
1 ½ Tbsp. Hershey's cocoa
1/2 cup milk
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 tsp. vanilla extract
Preparation
- Whisk together first five ingredients in a small saucepan.
- Bring to boil over medium heat, whisking constantly.
- Boil, stirring often, until thickened and bubbly.
- Stir in butter and vanilla.
- Serve over biscuits or shortbread. Yields 1 ¼ cups.
